posted 10/16/03 9:40:17 PM I am no expert but this is what I have on my 1979..... The highbeam dimmer is on the turn signal lever - pull it towards you and it switches state.
The dimmer for the dash and gauges is on the headlight switch - you rotate it left/right to change its brightness.
Does this help?

posted 10/25/03 5:56:48 PM yes, very much. thnx. i have one problem though: i dont have a turn signal switch which means i cant really work my high beams.
Problem: when i turn my lights on for night driving, it says my high beams are on ( the little blue light thingy) and i only have a nub where the turn signal switch used to be. If i were to use a pair of pliers and pull the little nub would i be able to work my high beams?
Ps: my car is a bit of a mess. hehe

posted 12/28/03 7:27:51 AM All 79 are supposed to have them in the steering column, but you might have the old system which has a seperate "pedal" where you usually rest your left foot.

posted 2/21/04 12:00:45 AM Grimbo, Your 79 Headlight switch is on the steering colomn. You can find a replacement from your Chevy dealer. You could switch to low beams with a pair of pliars and leave them on low for a while untill you can locate the proper handle. Sometimes the handle gets broken off when the dimmer switch goes bad and the owner keeps trying to switch the lights from low to high or high to low(don't ask me how I know this), at this point you will have to replace the dimmer switch and the handle. Neither one an easy job, best left to a real mechanic at that point. Good luck, try to enjoy your car!

posted 3/9/04 1:57:36 AM is it me, or does it take a lot of pressure to force the turn signal switch to the low beams....cuz i can do it with my fingers, so i guess the plier method is the only one, eh?
