Hi, I can only relate my own experience. But I replaced my ORIGINAL shocks (we're talking 23 yrs old!) with some monroe gas shocks and it made a HUGE difference. It felt a LOT more sporty as I could "read" the road a HECKUVA lot better now. At the same time I upgraded to poly bushings all around, 550 VB&P; springs, and a rear 330lb fiberglass spring. As long as you match up the springs/shocks together properly I don't see a problem. If you are going fiberglass rear spring, make sure you get rear shocks that are made for fiberglass springs (Vette Brakes & Products make "specially valved" shocks for this). I didn't believe it so I just used my monroe's in the back, but it rode like crap. So I ponied up for their specialty valved ones and the ride was much less harsh. In fact VB&P; sells packages. I would recommned you buy it all in a package (ie: the Touring or Track suspension). I bought the Track kit (the one with the 550 lb front springs) and am very pleased (though I don't drive it daily). Best not to skimp on the suspension. These cars were MADE to carve corners. Invest the money, you'll be pleased.
good luck!

I went from a stock suspension to 550's in the front and a 360 lb. F/G in the rear (tested closer to 370 lb.) I chose Koni shocks for there adjustability. This was my autocross set up. To harsh for the street. For the street use I switch the rear spring to a TRW 355 lb. and keep the fronts at 550.
This set up seems to ride fine and handle well. It is firm but drivable and still feels balanced.I Also added all poly bushings.
