My Ampmeter is shot. I noticed that the posts could touch the housing and possibly short out ? anyone dealt with this ? anyfeed back welcomed

The studs should have an insulating grommet around them to prevent shorting out to housing. They could have deteriated and fallen out if your gauge is real old.
