Whelp, I have decided to go to a removable crossmember. I need to get the tranny out and also drop the oil pan (which wont come out with the tranny in the way) and dread moving the engine just to do this. At least I have a welder so I can do it all at home.

Get a shop manual for your corvette. I have a 72 and found out that you don't have to take the engine out to change the clutch.
